Roll with the Punches

22 Mar Roll with the Punches

Life can be filled with frustrations.

Kids don’t listen.

Things break.

Spouses come home in grumpy moods.

Employees act like children.

Strangers cut you off in traffic.

Family members disagree.

But ultimately it’s our choice how we react to theses things.

The other day, I was happily sitting at my computer making some real headway with my work.

I was in my zone.

Then, all of a sudden my 12 year old – accidentally dumped a bag of markers on top of my computer.

Normally it wouldn’t be a big deal, except that my laptop has been ultra sensitive lately and at the slightest movement, it’ll just shut down.

And that’s exactly what happened.

POOF – just like that – I was taken out of my zone!

Years ago, this would’ve thrown off my entire day.

I would have spiraled into a bad mood for hours.

Sure I wasn’t happy with my annoying laptop, but it only lasted a moment.

I know that I’m the one in control of how I react to the current circumstances in my life.

Its not determined by outside forces.

Its me.

All me.

In that moment, I had the choice to let it get in the way of the good mood I was in, or I could choose to not make it a big deal.

Shit WILL happen, but it’s how we decide to respond to these things that will determine our happiness and make the most difference.

Good or bad.

So, I took a big deep breath – turned on my laptop, pulled up all my programs and began once again.

There is a great deal of power when you roll with the punches and choose to be in control of how you react to the world around you.

The next time life throws you a curve ball, ask yourself “How am choosing to respond to this?”
